A collision involving the Westbound Metro‐Rail ‘A-Line’ and what was initially reported to be two passenger cars has shut down the intersection of Monterey Road and Pasadena Avenue this morning.

UPDATED 10:45 am: Intersection is now cleared.

According to multiple on‐site witnesses and 911 calls, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the westbound Metro-Rail train struck two cars at the intersection of Monterey Road & Pasadena Avenue. The exact manner of the crash is currently under on-scene investigation.

Emergency services from the South Pasadena Police Department (SPPD), the South Pasadena Fire & Rescue (SPFD), the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) police and emergency teams are on scene, actively investigating and managing the response. Traffic in the immediate area is delayed, and detours are in place.

Travelers are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Intersection is now cleared.

Initial dispatch records indicate 14 fire and rescue units were requested; within approximately 20 minutes after the call all but two units were cancelled.

There are no series injuries reported at this time. Investigative agencies remain on scene.
