This is the time of year when many charities send out an appeal for a year end donation. While you are thinking about who and what you might like to support in 2018, please consider a local charity where you can make a real difference.

For the past twenty-one years, the South Pasadena Senior Center has created Holiday Cheer baskets for frail, homebound seniors. These baskets are delivered to around 25 South Pasadena residents who are alone at the holidays and for whom holiday cheer is in short supply. The Senior Center is looking for donations of gift cards, cookies and candy to create meaningful, cheerful and tasty gift baskets for those elders who are isolated at this time of year.

After the baskets are assembled, they are delivered by the Senior Citizen Commission to South Pasadena residents. Herb Shon, Bob Vanderwall, Matty Hurtado Sokolow, Cindi Knight and Alexandria Levitt all pick up their beribboned baskets assembled by Lilliana Torres, Senior Center Director and her staff and deliver them to the doors of our citizens, giving the Commissioners a wonderful chance to meet some of our local residents who are invariably surprised, delighted and SO appreciative of their gift.

This holiday season when you’re out, please consider picking up an extra gift card to local stores like Vons, Trader Joe’s, Rite Aid, Target, El Pollo Loco, McDonald’s or a package of festive cookies or holiday candies and drop these off at the Senior Center located next to the South Pasadena Library. Cash is accepted as well, and will be turned into gift cards as needed. Donations are accepted from December 1-15. Questions? Please call the South Pasadena Senior Center 626/403-7360.
