The South Pasadena Chinese American Club once again provided the food and entertainment at the much loved Lunar New Year celebration for South Pasadena’s senior citizens at the War Memorial Building, hosted by the South Pasadena Senior Center.
The War Memorial Building was beautifully decorated with red lanterns, dragons and flowers that welcomed seniors for the luncheon of traditional Chinese fare. In attendance were South Pasadena councilmember, Janet Braun, Mayor ProTem, Jack Donovan, and Mayor Evelyn Zniemer, along with representatives from City Staff, South Pasadena Police Department, and former Mayor Bob Joe.
Joe regaled the crowd with his “Uncle Bob” jokes that the seniors always appreciate and he also provided the delicious almond cookies. Beautiful Chinese traditional dance numbers were performed by dancers from the Dancing Wing Studio in Temple City.

The first one that year was helpd at the library community room and was an all day cultural event. In 2006, they began having the luncheon at the Senior Center and has grown to the beloved event that it is today. “This year 180 seniors are in attendance,” said Chang, “and it is the 17th year of SPCC hosting this wonderful event.”
