Los Angeles County has secured an $8 million wildfire relief grant from FireAid to aid residents, workers, and small businesses affected by recent wildfires. The funding will provide direct financial assistance to those impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires, offering crucial support for housing, employment recovery, and business rebuilding efforts.
Financial Relief for Wildfire Survivors
The FireAid grant includes $2.5 million for the LA County Household Relief Grant program, designed to assist residents displaced by the wildfires. Eligible households can receive up to $18,000 based on household size and composition. Applications for these grants open today, February 26, 2025, and close on March 12, 2025. Priority will be given to households with the greatest need, considering factors such as insurance status, social and economic vulnerability, and health risks.
The Household Relief Fund is part of a broader initiative set to distribute over $30 million in financial aid to wildfire survivors, covering housing costs, essential living expenses, and funeral assistance.
Emergency Assistance for Displaced Workers
FireAid has also allocated $2.5 million to the LA Region Worker Relief Fund, providing cash grants of up to $2,000 to individuals who lost their jobs or income due to the fires. The program includes workers who were employed in fire-affected areas but live elsewhere.
To ensure more workers can benefit from the relief, the deadline to apply has been extended to March 2, 2025, at 5 p.m.
Support for Small Businesses and Nonprofits
Recognizing the financial impact on local businesses, FireAid has granted $2 million to the LA Region Small Business Relief Fund. This fund provides grants ranging from $2,000 to $25,000 to businesses and nonprofits that suffered structural damage, inventory losses, or revenue declines due to the disaster. The deadline for applications has also been extended to March 2, 2025, at 5 p.m.
Additionally, FireAid contributed $1 million to the LA County Department of Arts & Culture’s 2025 Wildfire Recovery Resources, supporting cultural initiatives that aid community healing.
