PCH Closed Today: A segment of PCH is currently closed to residents and businesses in burn scar areas due to the storm. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed in closed areas. Test Results Indicate Dark Sediment is Not Hazardous Waste

Results from sediment samples taken after the January rain show that dark sediment on beaches near burn scar areas do not contain chemical levels that would classify it as hazardous waste. Samples were taken by LA County Public Works in early February on beach areas near outlets at the Santa Monica Channel and Topanga Creek, and results have been posted to Public Health’s Post-Fire Assessment Plan webpage.
