The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and L.A. Dance Project (LADP) present Gatherings, a triple-bill dance event exploring interdisciplinary collaborations through innovative choreography, music, and visual art. The performances take place June 13–14 at the Bram Goldsmith Theater in Beverly Hills. Tickets are now available at TheWallis.org.
A Powerful Evening of Contemporary Dance
The program features four works, including the premiere of Anthem, a site-specific outdoor performance choreographed by Janie Taylor. Dancers from the Trudl Zipper Dance Institute at the Colburn School will join LADP artists for this pre-show presentation.
Inside the theater, audiences will experience Triade by LADP Artistic Director Benjamin Millepied; Quartet for Five, a celebrated piece by Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber; and Taylor’s visually rich Sleepwalker’s Encyclopedia, featuring set designs by American painter Benjamin Styer.
About the Works
Anthem – Janie Taylor
Performed outdoors before each show, Anthem highlights students from the Colburn School dancing alongside LADP professionals in a site-specific prelude.
Triade – Benjamin Millepied
Premiered in 2008 at the Opéra Garnier in Paris, this repertory piece is Millepied’s homage to mentor Jerome Robbins. The choreography showcases dynamic movement set to music by Nico Muhly.
Quartet for Five – Bobbi Jene Smith & Or Schraiber
An emotionally resonant piece exploring tension and intimacy, Quartet for Five has captivated audiences at venues such as Élysée Palace and Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
Sleepwalker’s Encyclopedia – Janie Taylor
Structured in six sections and inspired by murals from Benjamin Styer, Taylor’s dreamlike choreography creates an immersive, surreal stage experience.
