The Huntington is embarking on a once-in-a-century project to create the Library of the future through the new Library/Art Building (LAB). The ambitious effort will restore the historic public-facing wing of the 1919 Library exhibition halls, originally designed by renowned architect Myron Hunt, while modernizing behind-the-scenes spaces to support today’s research and programming needs.

Throughout construction, The Huntington will remain fully open and active. Visitors can continue to enjoy its 130 acres of botanical gardens, art galleries, exhibitions, public programs, and rare Library materials displayed across the campus.

While the Library exhibition halls will be temporarily closed during construction, reading rooms and research services for readers and Research Fellows will remain fully operational and unchanged for the duration of the project.

The Huntington appreciates the public’s understanding as this important work moves forward and looks forward to welcoming visitors across the campus during construction. The Library exhibition halls are anticipated to reopen to the public in spring 2029.
