With the holidays just around the corner, your local Boy Scout Troop 342 is out and about selling fresh, beautiful greenery for their 66th Annual Greenery Fundraiser. Now through October 25th, the scouts stand at the ready to take your order for wreaths, garlands, door swags, hearth greenery as well as other décor including votive candle holders; something cozy, pretty items for every home and every budget.

This weekend (Oct. 7 & 8) in particular, the Scouts are set to go door to door after their first weekend of successful sales. Troop Committee Chair, Dean Serwin, tells us the success of this long running fundraiser is directly tied to Troop 342’s long and close history with South Pasadena.  The troop is nearly 90 years old now and they have been doing this particular fundraiser for 66 of those years! The fresh greenery is sourced from Sherwood Forest Farms in the Pacific Northwest and is hand crafted from freshly cut, sustainably harvested aromatic Noble Fir, Cedar and Pine, then hand delivered by the Scouts to your door the week following Thanksgiving.

“This is our one and only fundraiser and the proceeds not only fund our troop events, activates and community service projects, but each scout earns money towards the cost of Summer Camp,” says Serwin, adding, “Part of that close relationship to South Pasadena is that we have many families who look forward to seeing a Scout at their door each Fall to sell them a wreath or garland.  Not only do many families buy from us year after year, but each year we have at least one Scout who comes back from Route Sales telling how one of his new customers had a scout in 342 who sold Greenery 20 or 30 years ago.

Finally to South Pasadenans Serwin would like to say, “I know I speak for all the Scouts and their parents when I say how much we enjoy going door to door and meeting people and we appreciate the generosity and support as well as the well wishes we get every year from our neighbors in South Pasadena.”

What to do if you are not home with the Scout visits this weekend?  That’s no problem; the Scout will leave behind a full-color catalog stickered with his name and phone number so you can give him a call at your convenience to place an order.  No catalog at your door?  You can always reach out directly to Mrs. Thompson at 323-342-9490 and she will have a Scout bring you one!  All orders are due not later than October 25th so they can be prepared and delivered in time, so don’t wait until it is too late and instead order when the Scouts stop by.

Thank you, Troup 342, for bringing South Pasadenans holiday cheer, for all you do throughout the year in the way of service projects and to the parents who volunteer their time. You all make living in South Pasadena what it is.
