South Pasadena Beautiful and The Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library invite the community to come socialize with us and learn about nature’s best socializers: bees! The free event, presented in partnership with the South Pasadena Public Library, will take place Wednesday, October 19, at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:00 p.m.) at the Library Community Room, 1115 El Centro Street. The program features fascinating presentations by local beekeeper Michael Pusateri and native bee expert Hartmut Wisch.

Pusateri is a longtime South Pasadena resident, television engineer, and person with many hobbies. He took up beekeeping in 2018 and has been keeping bees in his backyard, learning a lot of lessons and getting a few stings and a little honey along the way. Pusateri will be speaking about the basics of bees, their lifecycle, and his experience as a local beekeeper.

Wisch is a retired naturalist-guide. After leading European visitors through natural areas of the U.S. and Canadian West for 35 years, he discovered a love for macro photography. His principal interests are insects, mostly our native bees. He has taken several bee-identification classes with the late Robbin Thorp, is a member of the Lorquin Entomological Society, Pacific Coast Entomological Society, and a contributing editor at Bugguide.net (hosted by Iowa State University Entomology).
