The mood was decidedly festive as the new Seniors at South Pasadena High School came to play in their now traditional “Senior Shirts”. Senior Lily Sortino said, “it was super weird to see all my friends in senior shirts, almost surreal. I’ve known most of them since elementary and middle school, so it doesn’t feel real that we’re seniors.”

Another senior was overheard saying, “it feels great just looking around and realizing there’s no one older than you. We made it!” High school is amazing when you see the sea of kids ranging in size anywhere from about 5 feet to 6 foot 3! Many were seen sporting their orange ASB jackets and various other shirts and jackets from clubs and sports on campus.

The parents were welcomed on the front patio for a First Day of School Coffee by Principal Janet Anderson and Superintendent Geoff Yantz. Anderson says she just loves the energy of the first day and is really excited about all that is happening this year at SPHS and encourages everyone to attend the first PTSA meeting, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About SPHS on Monday August 28. The Ice Breaker Dance is August 25 with the SAC assembly that day and Thursday August 31 is Back To School Night.

The Parent Coffee is always a great chance for parents to catch up and it’s a wonderful first opportunity for incoming freshman parents to get into the swing of high school. Delicious homemade pastries were served as is the custom in this great town, all provided by the dedicated hospitality committee led by Lauren Schwab.

Here’s to every single Tiger, from freshman to senior, may this be your best year yet! Tiger Pride!
