South Pasadena Fires at Arroyo Park: Two 'spot fires' in the brush adjacent to the fields in the Arroyo reported by fire officials shortly after arrival.

A large brush fire erupted Saturday afternoon in South Pasadena’s Arroyo Park with flames reaching over 100 feet into the air. Firefighters from multiple departments battled the blaze for nearly five hours.

The fires were first reported at about 3:30 p.m. adjacent to South Pasadena Arroyo park’s baseball/soccer fields and close the San Pascual Stables. Two main fires – one to the north and one to the south of the fields – along with multiple spot fires erupting for firefighters to contend with.

The largest fire engulfed a grove of towering palm trees, sending huge flames and plumes of smoke billowing into the air. The temperature on the ground was over 95F. There was very little wind.

More than 30 fire units from departments across the region, including South Pasadena, Pasadena, Los Angeles, and San Marino responded to the scene. The South Pasadena Police Department was also present, managing traffic and ensuring the safety of bystanders.

Residents in the nearby communities of South Pasadena and Los Angeles anxiously watched the situation unfold, their homes potentially at risk. Social media was active with live-streamed videos of the fires, providing real-time updates to concerned community members and the broader public.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are currently under investigation. As of the time of reporting, there were no known injuries.
