Dia De Los Muertos Festival Bursts With Life in Playhouse Village

The Playhouse Village Association and Mercadito Monarca Cultural Arts Shop present Día de los Muertos Festival in Playhouse Village, a FREE full day event celebrating the ancestral tradition of Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on Sunday, October 16, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Arcade Lane (696 E Colorado Blvd).

Día de Los Muertos Festival brings locals and visitors together to celebrate life and the lives of loved ones who have passed at this vibrant, entertaining, cultural experience at Mercadito Monarca in Arcade Lane. Día de los Muertos Festival brings back its unique presentation of community altars, music, artisan vendors and art workshops in a free, family-friendly event. Mercadito Monarca transforms Arcade Lane into a beautiful Mexican Zócalo that comes alive with performances of dance and music featuring Pasadena’s own, Danza Azteca Yankuititl, showcasing Aztec dances and traditional costumes. The showcase continues with Ballet Folklorico group featuring Mila Soria and special guests performing an array of folk dances from across various regions of Mexico. Additionally, Mariachi Herencia Michoacana will be on full display featuring the talented youth from their community led music program. Guests of all ages can join in the celebration with face painting, arts & crafts activities, story time, and shopping amongst artisan craft vendors.

Playhouse Village Association and Mercadito Monarca have also curated a collection of ofrendas, or altars, showcased at restaurants, cafes, and shops throughout Playhouse Village and created by local artists and community partners. Photographs of loved ones grace altars as well as offerings of food, marigolds, incense, candles, and other traditional offerings. Experience and learn about the traditions of Día de los Muertos through this self-guided tour. The altars exhibit will be on display October 16th – November 4th.
