Enjoy a free Día de los Muertos celebration with live performances, family-oriented activities, and pan dulce at Pasadena’s Lineage Performing Arts Center on Friday October 29th from 5-9pm. This community event is perfect for all ages and free to the public, no registration required.

Cultivating Traditions is a community celebration of the traditional Mexican holiday and is inspired by the traditions of the holiday that are passed down from generation to generation. Event organizer Debbie Ortiz says of the night’s purpose, “my great-grandmother cultivated tradition and culture within my family, and she is the inspiration for bringing this event to our community. I want to celebrate that tradition, and invite everyone to celebrate those people who have passed down the gift of tradition to you.”

Lineage has partnered with local visual artists, as well as Santa Ana dance troupe Danza Artes de México, and CSU Fullerton Chicano Studies professor José Zamora to curate an evening of dance, crafts, and history that celebrates and honors the traditions of Día de los Muertos. The centerpiece of the event is the community altar, where attendees are encouraged to leave photos and offerings for passed loved ones. Kids and adults alike can take part in hands-on crafting workshops that include sugar skull painting, flower making and DIY mini-altar making. Enjoy complimentary snacks and beverages, and make some new traditions for you and your family.
