Season Finale Showcases Bold, Diverse Repertoire
Camerata Pacifica concludes its adventurous 2024–25 season with a compelling program of chamber music that blends humor, pathos, and technical brilliance. The season finale features works by William Bolcom, Frédéric Chopin, and Lera Auerbach, performed at four Southern California venues from May 16 to 22, 2025.

The concerts will take place at:

  • May 16, 7:00 PM – Music Academy of the West, Santa Barbara

  • May 18, 3:00 PM – Janet and Ray Scherr Forum, Thousand Oaks

  • May 20, 7:30 PM – The Huntington’s Rothenberg Hall, San Marino

  • May 22, 8:00 PM – Zipper Hall at The Colburn School, Los Angeles

Program Highlights Emotion, Wit, and Technical Brilliance

William Bolcom’s “Orphée-Sérénade” opens the program with its eclectic tonal palette. Composed in 1984, the work dances between lyrical, witty, and propulsive moods. Bolcom, a recipient of the National Medal of Arts and Pulitzer Prize, is renowned for his genre-blending compositions that erase boundaries between classical and popular styles.

Chopin’s “Andante spianato et Grande polonaise brillante in E-flat Major, Op. 22” follows, spotlighting Camerata Pacifica Principal Pianist Irina Zahharenkova. Known for its technical fireworks and lush harmonies, the piece offers an emotionally resonant centerpiece.

Closing the program is “Dreammusik” by contemporary composer Lera Auerbach, written in 2014 for Camerata Pacifica and Principal Cellist Ani Aznavoorian, who also performs the piece. Commissioned by Sandra Tillisch Svoboda in memory of her husband, Dreammusik showcases Auerbach’s signature intensity and genre-defying modernism.
