The South Pasadena City Council and the Finance Commission will convene for a special joint meeting on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 7:00 PM to address key financial matters for the upcoming fiscal year. The meeting will be held in the Amedee O. “Dick” Richards Jr. Council Chambers at 1424 Mission Street. Key topics on the agenda include a detailed review of the proposed Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget, financing options for major capital improvement projects, and a new retirement system for part-time city employees.
The meeting will be called to order by Mayor Janet Braun, with a roll call of City Council members including Mayor Pro Tem Sheila Rossi and Councilmembers Michael A. Cacciotti, Jon Primuth, and Omari Ferguson. The Finance Commission will be led by Chair Peter Giulioni Jr., alongside Vice Chair Cynthia Quade and Commissioners Nevin Stanton-Trehan, Y-Le Ho, and Renee Rubin.
Key Financial Decisions on the Table
A central focus of the meeting will be the comprehensive review of the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025-2026. City staff will present the budget, after which the council and commission will discuss the proposal and its associated budget policy.
Additionally, officials will explore financing strategies for significant capital improvement and public infrastructure projects, which includes the possibility of a bond measure.
Another significant item is the consideration of a resolution to establish a new retirement system for temporary, part-time hourly employees. The proposal recommends implementing the Public Agency Retirement Systems (PARS) to replace Social Security for these employees, with a proposed effective date of January 1, 2026.
The consent calendar also includes the filing of the City Treasurer’s Reports for the months ending March 31, 2025, through June 30, 2025.
