Neighbors observing from nearby described a tense and somber atmosphere. One neighbor said police questioned the victim’s adult grandchildren and noted that the back door of the home had been open all night. Earlier, a South Pasadena Fire Dept. paramedic was seen entering with a defibrillator but exited shortly after. The power was reportedly off on the victim’s floor of the building.

Another neighbor, who returned home around 8:30 p.m., recounted seeing police arrive as he came back from the grocery store. News crews from NBC and Channel 9 were also present, seeking information from LASD’s public information officer.  LASD has not released a report to the public yet.

The victim, described as an elderly woman, had lived alone in the well-maintained property for many years. The upstairs unit had been vacant for about two years. She was known to have two adult grandchildren, a granddaughter and a grandson, who used to live with her.

Further accounts from a neighbor across the way mentioned hearing police officers in the back of the building yelling for someone to come out of the second floor, with their guns drawn, adding to the tension of the night.
