South Pasadena City Hall’s phone system has been offline since approximately 10:00 AM this morning, as part of a nationwide outage affecting RingCentral services. The outage has disrupted both inbound and outbound calls, leaving residents unable to reach city staff via phone.
No direct email communication has been received from RingCentral regarding the outage, but updates are being posted on their official service status page. The most recent status, updated at 3:57 PM PST, indicates:
“We are experiencing an outage that is causing some inbound and outbound calls to fail. Getting your service restored is our #1 priority at this time. Our engineers are working hard to identify the root cause and resolve the situation. We will share a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) once service is fully operational.”
City officials have expressed frustration over the situation, particularly as RingCentral’s customer support is also inaccessible due to the outage. Both phone and chat support are unavailable, adding to the communication challenges.
Updates on the situation from RingCentral have been issued sporadically throughout the day:
- 10:52 AM PST: Initial investigation began.
- 11:42 AM PST: Mitigation steps were reportedly underway.
- 1:21 PM PST: Troubleshooting continued with updates promised hourly.
Despite these assurances, the phone system at the South Pasadena City Hall remains sporadically, and mostly, non-operational, and there is no clear timeline for restoration. Residents are encouraged to use 911 (unaffected by this outage) for emergency calls to Police & Fire.
For urgent matters, the city recommends using email as an alternative method of communication. Updates regarding the outage and its impact on city operations will be shared as they become available.
This is a developing story. Check back with The South Pasadenan News for further updates.
