A shooting erupted Saturday evening on the border of South Pasadena and Los Angeles, rattling residents with multiple rapid-fire gunshots. The incident occurred on the LA side of Marmion Way, on the border of South Pasadena, prompting an immediate and large-scale response from LAPD Hollenbeck and LAPD Northeast Division, including LAPD Air Support.
According to police radio transmissions and witnesses at the scene, shots were fired at approximately 5:44 p.m., with at least one vehicle being targeted by gunfire. A witness reported that one of the vehicles hit in the shooting was a late 1980s or early 1990s black Ford Mustang convertible sedan. The car was later spotted about 1,000 feet down Marmion Way toward Highland Park, abandoned in the middle of the street. Inside the vehicle, witnesses saw a wounded female occupant. Police investigating on the scene reported her condition as unknown.
Officers arriving at the scene secured the area, shutting down Marmion Way from the South Pasadena side to the 110 Freeway entrance/exit. A witness in the park at the time of the shooting reported, “They shot up one of the cars.”
Police scanner updates initially indicated no victims, but later reports confirmed that at least one person was shot. Additional victim information is unverified as the investigation continues. Authorities confirmed that no fatalities have been reported as of Saturday night.
Officers on scene described the suspect as a Hispanic male, wearing a red backpack, black clothing, and having face tattoos. The suspect was last seen heading in an unknown direction following the shooting. The weapon, believed to be a handgun, has not been recovered; however shell casings and a partially full clip was found at the location of the shooting.
LAPD is actively investigating, with a crime scene established on Marmion Way. LAPD Officers requested CHP assistance to shut down the 110 North off-ramp at Marmion Way to assist in securing the area.
