South Pasadena Fire Department officials, joined by four other area agencies, responded to a first story apartment fire Wednesday afternoon at 651 Grand Avenue in the city.
“We responded with a full assignment for a structure fire,” explained South Pasadena Fire Department Chief Paul Riddle, noting that the first arriving unit saw smoke from the complex at about 12:30 p.m.
Units from Alhambra, Pasadena, San Gabriel and San Marino assisted the SPFD in putting out the blaze.
“We made an initial fire attack to the first floor and took about seven to 10 minutes in knocking down the fire,” said Riddle, who added it appears to be a blaze that originated in the kitchen. “It doesn’t appear that there are any injuries or that anyone was home (at the time of the fire0. At this point, we’re looking for extension (of the fire) into the second floor. It doesn’t appear that there’s an extension of the fire anywhere.”
