Baptisms conducted outside Mosaic Church in the heart of South Pasadena have been stopped.
According to city officials, the church at the Rialto Theatre, 1023 Fair Oaks Avenue, was conducting baptisms in a children’s pool in the parking lot. Planning Department personnel say the church’s conditional use permit does not allow for outdoor religious activities like baptisms.
City staff informed church organizers that the practice of baptisms was not permitted under their current CUP agreement.
City officials insist the baptisms have now ceased.
