Watercolors,” a solo exhibition of evocative works by artist Jimmy Lee, opens at the South Pasadena Arts Council’s SPARC Gallery on Saturday, August 21, 2021, with a reception from 4 to 7 p.m.

“It is a privilege for SPARC to present the art of Jimmy Lee to the City of South Pasadena,” said curator Richard Blue Trimarchi of Art Works Fine Art Publishing.  “Lee’s mastery of both brush and observation earns him admiration from anyone who has attempted to paint in the unforgiving medium of watercolor. With subject matter ranging from signage to building exteriors to billiard balls, Jimmy Lee captures light and shadow with a photorealistic technique that allows the viewer to experience the scene as if they were there as he painted them.”

Lee, a graduate of the California College of the Arts and an illustrator and graphic artist with more than decades in the film and television industry, states that “natural light defines form and creates color. Shadows and reflective color are the components that guide the way, and what I choose to paint.”

In addition to the SPARC Gallery opening, SPARC is hosting the official unveiling of a mural by artist Jonas Never honoring the late Laker great Kobe Bryant, at 6:30 p.m., across the street at the 1020 Mission Street complex. Both free events take place during the City’s August 21 “Al Fresco” daylong event sponsored by the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce.

COVID safety is of primary concern at SPARC events and masks are required per Los Angeles Country’s health mandate for indoor venues, and strongly recommended for outdoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status.
