All City Track Meet | 44th Annual ‘All City Track Meet’ Brings South Pasadena Together for a Weekend of Fun & Competition

Sign Up! Registration is open at spactm.org through April 18, 2025.

South Pasadena’s longest-running youth tradition, the Annual City Track Meet (ACTM), returns for its 44th year on Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the South Pasadena High School (SPHS) track. Since 1981, this PTA-organized event has brought together elementary students from Arroyo Vista, Marengo, Monterey Hills, and Holy Family for a weekend of spirited track and field competition. The ACTM continues to inspire young athletes and unite families in a celebration of community and perseverance.

Open to all K-5 students—no experience needed—the ACTM offers a range of events, from the 50-yard dash and long jump to the softball throw and 400-yard relay. According to spactm.org, kids can sign up for individual events, while relay teams are selected through school tryouts. Practices are underway at the SPHS track, led by parent volunteers and SPHS track team members, with flexible drop-in options for any school’s session. “It’s all about giving every child a chance to shine,” said co-organizer Megan Gardner, alongside Gina Loyonnet.

The weekend begins Friday, April 25, with check-in at 4:00 p.m. near the SPHS stadium entrance at 1401 Fremont Avenue. Opening ceremonies follow at 4:30 p.m., with girls’ events starting at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, April 26, picks up at 8:00 a.m., running through approximately 2:00 p.m. (times may shift, but won’t start early). Between races, “Field Day Fun!”—skill challenges led by SPHS track volunteers—keeps the energy high. New this year, per additional event details, awards will honor the top three finishers per event with medals, while ribbons go to places 4-6, and all participants receive a certificate and T-shirt.

Registration is open at spactm.org through April 18, 2025, with a $15 fee per student—or $20 after the deadline, space permitting. Refunds are available only if the event is canceled due to extreme weather or unforeseen circumstances, a rare occurrence in its 44-year history. Spectators enter free, and families are encouraged to bring chairs, water bottles, and sunscreen to cheer on the kids. Food trucks will be on-site, but outside food is welcome too.

“This isn’t just a track meet—it’s a South Pasadena tradition that builds confidence and camaraderie,” Gardner said. The event’s longevity owes much to school coordinators—Eryn Kalavsky (Arroyo Vista), Noel Garcia (Marengo), Georgeanna Cheung (Monterey Hills), and Paul Ripple (Holy Family)—who ensure a seamless experience, rain or shine. With over 40 volunteers still needed for roles like timing and setup, interested parents can email [email protected] to join the effort.

The South Pasadenan has chronicled the ACTM’s highlights over the last several years. This event has been an instant tradition from its humble 1981 start to moments like the 2023 relay thriller and 2024’s record-setting jumps.

In a region still healing from the Los Angeles Hurricane-Force Firestorm, this year’s meet offers a joyful respite. “After a tough year, watching our kids run and laugh feels like a gift,” one parent noted. The event also nurtures future SPHS Tigers, with high school athletes mentoring their younger peers.

Parking along Fremont Avenue fills quickly, so carpooling is recommended. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. Saturday, with no re-entry restrictions—come and go as needed. For updates or to volunteer, check spactm.org or email the organizers.

Since 1981, the ACTM has been a rite of passage for South Pasadena’s youth, blending competition with community spirit.
