The City of South Pasadena will hold a free compost and mulch event this Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Arroyo Golf Course parking lot, 1055 Lohman Lane. The giveaway is open to South Pasadena residents only.
Both materials are self-serve, and each household is limited to two 35-gallon containers.

Residents should bring a sturdy container, a shovel and proof of residence, such as an ID or a utility bill. The city said compost and mulch will not be supplied in plastic bags or cardboard boxes.
The compost was donated by Athens Services. According to the city, it is a mixture of decayed organic material, including food waste, and is used for enriching soil. Athens compost is STA certified by the U.S. Compost Council. The city noted that the compost may contain small particles of glass.
The mulch was donated by West Coast Arborist Inc. The city describes it as chipped tree trimmings or bark groundcover that works as an insulator, helping maintain the temperature of soil and roots to reduce evaporation and the formation of weeds.
The event is presented by the City of South Pasadena’s sustainability program. For more information, call the City of South Pasadena at (626) 403-7200 or visit SouthPasadenaCA.gov/EnvironmentalPrograms.
