In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Woman’s Club of South Pasadena will welcome Dr. Maria Nelson, a breast surgical oncologist, on October 8, 2026 at the South Pasadena Clubhouse for an informative and engaging discussion about breast cancer risk and early detection.
This event will be open to members of the public, and women of all ages are welcome to attend and learn with us. Learn how breast density, family history, lifestyle, and other factors can influence your personal risk, including which risk factors you can change and which you cannot. Dr. Nelson will review breast cancer screening, individualized risk assessment, common myths and misconceptions, and what we know about diet and lifestyle. Attendees will leave with practical information to better understand risk, make informed decisions about breast health, and learn about the comprehensive breast care services available through USC.
The event will open with wine & cheese reception, brief presentations from Dr. Nelson and will end with a question and answer session.
Maria E. Nelson, MD FACS FSSO, is an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery, Chief of the Division of Breast, Endocrine and Soft Tissue Surgery, and Associate Program Director of the USC Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship.
