Over 100 high school students from the Pasadena area demonstrated new skills in construction readiness, industrial fabrication, welding, and building inspection at a student showcase held at Pasadena City College (PCC), attended by educators, employers, community leaders, and supporters.
The teens were participants in an innovative “earn and learn” summer program at PCC supported by L.A. County Skilled Trades Summers, an initiative launched by Harbor Freight Tools for Schools in 2021, where high school students got paid, received hands-on training in the trades, and earned high-value industry-based certifications that can lead to entry-level employment in high-demand industries.
Program participants included students from communities devastated by the 2025 wildfires who wanted to take part in the rebuilding efforts. The summer program was part of Skills to Rebuild, PCC’s initiative to support the region’s rebuilding and recovery.
This three-part event featured a student showcase, an industry employer panel, and a career fair connecting students directly with industry leaders.
