As the school year winds down, families and young readers are invited to gather under the shade of Library Park to celebrate the magic of reading. It is a time-honored tradition that promises to spark imaginations and foster a lifelong love of literature.

The familiar buzz of summer is about to return to the heart of our city. For generations of local residents, the turning of the season is marked not just by warmer weather, but by the sight of eager children clutching fresh stacks of books.

This Saturday, June 6, the South Pasadena Public Library invites the community to officially ring in the season. From 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Oxley Street side of Library Park will transform into a vibrant hub of family-friendly festivities.

A Festive Afternoon

The free event is open to everyone, designed to bring neighbors together and ignite a passion for summer reading. It is a perfect opportunity to step outside, connect with fellow residents, and enjoy our vibrant civic spaces.

Attendees can expect a lively atmosphere filled with engaging activities. Children can enjoy face painting and a nail polish station, or marvel at custom creations by a talented balloon artist.

Beating the Heat

To help residents stay cool, Kona Ice will be serving up refreshing shaved ice treats throughout the afternoon.

Beyond the snacks and games, the core mission of the day is to encourage literacy and continued learning while school is out. Dedicated library staff will be on-site to help families seamlessly register for the Summer Reading Program.

Participants will learn exactly how to log their pages and track their reading milestones over the coming months.
