“A Moveable Feast” – South Pasadena Preservation Foundation Presents A Revived Signature Event

Familiar to many longtime friends of SPPF, this multi-house event unfolds as a lively afternoon and evening of wine, cocktails, entertainment, and chef-prepared hors d’oeuvres and dinner.

SPPF Dinner Tour Event 'A Moveable Feast' Fundraiser May3rd, 2026. South Pasadena Preservation Foundation.

The South Pasadena Preservation Foundation (SPPF) will revive one of its most beloved traditions on Sunday, May 3, with the return of its signature multi-home dining experience, newly reintroduced as “A Moveable Feast.”

Formerly known as the ‘Progressive Dinner’, the reimagined event unfolds as an elegant, roaming afternoon and evening set within several of South Pasadena’s most distinguished historic residences along Buena Vista Street—designated City Landmarks Nos. 4, 17, and 41.

Running from 3:00 to 7:30 p.m., the event blends architectural access, culinary experience, and community gathering into a single, immersive fundraiser supporting SPPF’s preservation work.

A Living Experience of South Pasadena’s Historic Homes

Guests will move from residence to residence throughout the afternoon, experiencing each property as both a setting and a story. The event offers rare interior access to landmark homes, paired with guided insights and informal exploration.

Highlights of the tour include:
• A hidden underground swimming pool
• A residential confessional
• A private fire station
• A steampunk-era boiler system
• Distinctive stained and “psychedelic” windows

Guided tours will be available, though guests are equally encouraged to move at their own pace—lingering in conversation, revisiting spaces, or simply enjoying the atmosphere.

A Culinary Program Anchored by Chef James Boyle

The culinary experience is designed as a progression, matching the movement of the event itself.

The evening begins with a market-fresh appetizer reception at the historic Lucretia Garfield House, curated by Executive Chef James Boyle.

South Pasadena Real Estate

It continues with an abundant buffet dinner hosted at the Emma Childs House, the largest estate on the tour. The event culminates with dinner served across the home’s expansive main floor and veranda, arranged for a relaxed yet refined dining experience

Throughout the event, guests will enjoy:
• Complimentary wines
• Signature cocktails
• Spirit-free beverages

Each residence contributes to what organizers describe as a “traveling cocktail party,” maintaining a festive and continuous sense of gathering across locations.

A Deliberate Shift in Tone: Community Over Formality

In contrast to traditional fundraising galas, A Moveable Feast is intentionally designed to feel effortless, social, and welcoming.

The event replaces high-pressure auction formats with a more natural model—bringing together neighbors, supporters, and friends in a setting that reflects the very homes and community SPPF works to preserve.

The approach signals both confidence and evolution: a strong foundation, an engaged community, and a preservation mission that is increasingly lived rather than simply observed.

Premium Table Experience Available

For those attending as a group, SPPF is offering a limited number of reserved premium tables for six or eight guests.

These tables to include:
• Guaranteed group seating for dinner
• Elevated floral arrangements
• On-table recognition signage
• Chilled sparkling wine with glass service upon arrival

Reserved tables provide an enhanced guest experience while offering additional direct support for SPPF’s preservation initiatives.
