On Saturday, March 21, 2026, the historic First United Methodist Church of Pasadena will host “We Are Not the Disaster,” a special screening event featuring short films from five local filmmakers directly impacted by the devastating Eaton fire. United by the Ashes to Films grant, these storytellers are turning personal tragedy into a powerful display of community spirit and creative recovery.

The event, scheduled from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Gothic Revival–styled sanctuary, serves as a poignant follow-up to the inaugural Ashes to Films Festival. It offers an intimate look at the recovery process through the eyes of those who lost homes, schools, and livelihoods.

“Ashes to Films was founded to champion creative recovery,” said founder Shiloh Strong. “While relief efforts often focus on rebuilding physical structures, we believe that reconnecting people with their creative voices is an essential lifeline. These films prove that while a disaster may have happened to these artists, they are not defined by it.”
