In the aftermath of the Eaton Fire, many residents faced not only the loss of homes and property but also deeply sentimental belongings such as artwork, family photos, stuffed animals, ceramics, and jewelry.

To help preserve these irreplaceable items, Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s office partnered with the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture to host a special conservation clinic at the Altadena Library last weekend. Professional art conservators were on hand to carefully clean and restore objects damaged by smoke, soot, and fire.

The clinic marked the second event of its kind in the district, following a similar program held in March at the Armory Center for the Arts. Residents who attended said the event offered not only restoration services but also emotional relief.

“Every object has a story,” Supervisor Barger said, reflecting on conversations with attendees. “It was moving to hear them share how much their treasures meant and to see them leave with renewed hope.”

One participant expressed gratitude after seeing their belongings restored: “There’s a new life to this.”

Local leaders said events like these highlight the community’s resilience and provide a way for residents to hold onto meaningful parts of their past while rebuilding their homes and lives.
