With the character’s whimsical and witty charm, she teaches them valuable lessons while transforming everyday moments into adventures. The story emphasizes themes of family, imagination and the importance of love and joy in life.
This YSTA live theatre production of Mary Poppins, Jr. is made of two casts: The “Chimney Cast” and the “Umbrella Cast”. The “Chimney Cast” performed the show attended for this review.
The actor playing Mary Poppins, Caighsi Currie, delivered a sparkling performance; captivating the audience from her first entrance with songs and dance scenes overflowing with the nostalgia for this timeless story.

Bert the charming chimney sweep, is brought to life by actor Maddie Cooper. Maddie is a highly talented dancer and singer. Her performance was outright fun and memorable.
The energetic small-theater-vibes venue comfortably complements the whimsical nature of the production that provides for an intimate and inviting experience for the audience. The colorful sets and period-inspired costumes added to an overall vintage charm, transporting us to early 20th-century London.
The show’s choreography, crafted by Esteban Hurtado, was lively and delightfully fit the upbeat music. Despite only two weeks of rehearsal, and the diverse age range of performers–from very young children to older kids– he delivered entertaining dance scenes that looked impressively polished. It was clear the all-kids cast were having a blast on stage!!

The engagement from the YSTA staff added to the overall experience—especially from director Jim Blanchette, a talented and highly experienced entertainment professional whose humorous introductions set the tone, and Director of Operations Gabriel Barbouth, who ensured every guest was warmly welcomed and comfortably seated.

Concessions are well-staffed and stocked with classic snacks, including wine and cold beer! During intermission, the cast comes out to engage in fun fundraising activities, raffles and prizes, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the event.
