Hotbox Vintage is circling back to its roots with a curated collection that celebrates three of Japan’s distinct fashion designers: mercibeaucoup, Yoshie Inaba, and Hiroko Koshino. Known for their unique approach to elevated basics, playful silhouettes, and sophisticated tailoring, these designers take center stage in the shop’s latest vintage edit.

Since its early days, Hotbox has curated collections around specific themes—from Western-core to vacation-ready ensembles. But this time, the shop delves into something more personal: a love for Japanese fashion rooted in the brand’s early passion for designer vintage.

“Collecting designers is how we started,” says the team at Hotbox. “It’s what we’re still into all these years later.”

mercibeaucoup: Quirky, Bold, and Full of Energy

South Pasadena Real Estate

Founded in 2006 by Eri Utsugi, mercibeaucoup is widely sought-after for its whimsical, pop-art-meets-streetwear aesthetic. Drawing influence from cartoon characters to construction uniforms, the label reimagines basics in humorous, imaginative ways.

Known for being “neat and proper, yet still humorous,” the brand describes itself as a playful paradox—“strong yet simple; nice and tidy clothes, easy and with a sense of fun.” Pieces from mercibeaucoup are instantly recognizable and inject energy into any wardrobe.

Wearing them, as Hotbox puts it, is “an instant energy-hit.”

Yoshie Inaba: Sophisticated, Tailored, Timeless

On the more refined end of the spectrum, Yoshie Inaba represents the quiet power of minimalism. A major figure in Japanese fashion since the 1980s, Inaba has built a devoted following with her expertly tailored designs and top-tier fabrics.

Known for “elevated basics,” her clean silhouettes and luxe materials have earned comparisons to Armani and Max Mara. Each piece emphasizes longevity and craftsmanship, delivering understated elegance.

“To see and feel these pieces for yourself,” Hotbox says, “is to experience firsthand the unique pleasure of beautifully made clothing.”

Hiroko Koshino: Artful Construction and Modern Femininity

The edit also highlights work by Hiroko Koshino, one of the pioneering forces in Japanese contemporary fashion. With innovative draping, strong construction, and unexpected textures, her designs bridge art and wearability.

Koshino’s pieces in the Hotbox collection range from architectural blouses to sculptural knit tops—each item embodying a refined blend of creativity and structure that makes them stand out on the vintage rack.
