Keeping up with Kathryn | LA County Board of Supervisors
In a major move to support residents recovering from wildfires, Los Angeles County has voted to waive rebuilding permit fees for Altadena homeowners. The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion this week that ensures residents will no longer be required to pay these fees—some of which can exceed $20,000—when rebuilding their homes.
The motion, introduced in direct response to community concerns, also guarantees that residents who have already paid permit fees will receive full refunds.
Responding to Community Needs
“I’ve heard you loud and clear,” said the motion’s author, affirming that financial barriers should not stand in the way of rebuilding. “We cannot allow costly permit fees to prevent Altadena residents from reclaiming their homes and communities.”
The decision reinforces the sentiment expressed by many throughout the community: “Altadena is not for sale.” With this measure, the County hopes to turn that declaration into tangible relief.
Supporting Rebuilding and Recovery
Waiving and refunding permit fees is the latest step in helping wildfire survivors retain property ownership, rebuild safely, and restore their neighborhoods with dignity. The move comes as part of a broader effort by Los Angeles County to address long-term recovery and resilience in fire-prone communities.
