“Little Women Ballet,” a moving full-length classical ballet based on Louisa May Alcott’s iconic novel, returns to the historic Pasadena Playhouse for three performances this June. Produced by ArtistsPlus Productions and choreographed by Emma Andres, this original ballet celebrates the timeless journey of the March sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—as they navigate love, loss, and personal discovery during a transformative era.
Following a community-driven recovery after the devastating Eaton Fire, which destroyed costumes, props, and merchandise, “Little Women Ballet” is back with renewed spirit and gratitude. This encore presentation blends original choreography, emotional storytelling, and Victorian-era compositions, offering audiences of all ages an unforgettable live performance.
A Celebration of Women’s Stories Through Dance
Choreographer Emma Andres, a UC Irvine-trained artist and Pasadena Civic Ballet resident choreographer, created “Little Women Ballet” to bring more women-centered narratives to the ballet stage. Her work highlights the strength and resilience of women in history and literature, inspired by her mission to offer young audiences empowering, relatable stories.

The ballet’s choreography is paired with compositions by Daniel Robbins, as well as classic works by Brahms and Debussy, enhancing pivotal scenes from the novel such as Jo’s rejection of Laurie, Beth’s farewell, and the whimsical Pickwick Club meetings.
Performances & Ticket Information
“Little Women Ballet” will be performed in two acts at the following times:
- Saturday, June 21 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
- Sunday, June 22 at 2 p.m.

A Cast Spanning Generations
The production features a cast of 35–40 dancers, aged 10 to 75, donning 19th-century costumes that authentically reflect the era. Dancers are coached in both classical technique and character development, bringing depth to each portrayal.
More Than a Ballet: A Community Experience
“Little Women Ballet” has expanded into a broader movement, including immersive experiences at the Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles and open ballet classes hosted at Pasadena Civic Ballet. A Victorian folk dance finale invites audiences to join the cast in celebration after the show.
