Starting Monday, June 2, 2025, a new Survivor Support Location (SSL) will open at the Altadena Community Center to provide continued in-person recovery assistance for those affected by the Eaton Fire. The temporary location is a joint effort between the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) and the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA).

The SSL replaces the recently closed Disaster Recovery Centers in Altadena and West Los Angeles, ensuring local residents continue to receive vital support as they navigate the aftermath of the fire.

Centralized Recovery Services for Fire Survivors

At the new Altadena SSL, survivors will have direct access to federal, state, and county agencies, including:

  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

  • U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)

  • Los Angeles County Treasurer and Tax Collector

  • Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office

  • DCBA staff

Available Services Include:

  • Assistance with FEMA correspondence and appeals

  • Help submitting required documentation

  • Guidance on applying for low-interest federal disaster loans

  • Consumer counseling, tenant protection guidance, and worker assistance

  • Referrals to long-term recovery resources for individuals and families

A Commitment to Community Recovery

“The road to recovery will be long for many survivors navigating a myriad of challenges,” said Rafael Carbajal, DCBA Director. “By opening this location in the heart of Altadena, we are ensuring that residents still grappling with the toll of the fires have a place right in their neighborhood to turn to for support.”

Although the nearby Altadena Senior Center was destroyed in the fire, the Altadena Community Center, though damaged by smoke, remained intact. Recognizing its strategic location, DCBA quickly repaired the facility to serve as a key resource hub for community recovery.

“Establishing a Survivor Support Location here is not only a practical solution; it’s an intentional one,” added Carbajal. “It reflects LA County’s commitment to stand beside the Altadena community every step of the way.”
