Even rain did not deter hundreds of elementary school students from competing in the annual all-city track meet. The event, which brings all elementary schools in the city together to vie for athletic bragging rights.
The yearly event is held at the track facilities at South Pasadena High School and organized by the South Pasadena PTA. Youngsters competed in numerous events from running, jumping, and throwing. Stands were packed with parents and supporters of the young athletes, whose enthusiasm was not diminished by the rain, with hundreds of umbrellas visible in the spectator section.
The first three placements in each event received medals (gold, silver and bronze) which were awarded as their names were announced to those in the stadium as the recipients mounted a three-tier Olympic-style podium to receive the hardware.
