A police pursuit came to a dramatic end Thursday afternoon when multiple suspects fled on foot after a multi-vehicle crash on the eastbound 134 Freeway, ultimately leading authorities to the Eagle Rock Recreation Center. The incident has prompted a shooting investigation near Figueroa Street, possibly involving officers.
Pursuit Ends in Chaos After Freeway Collision
The situation unfolded around 3:00 p.m., when Los Angeles authorities responded to a three-vehicle crash on the eastbound side of the 134 Freeway. According to emergency dispatch logs, the initial collision involved a black SUV, a red Tesla, and a silver sedan, blocking multiple lanes. Additional reports later mentioned a gold vehicle and a white truck also being involved.
Shortly after the crash, two Black male suspects were seen fleeing eastbound on foot in the freeway’s fast lane — one reportedly shirtless. A responder noted they were “running fast, trying to get away from something,” triggering an urgent pursuit.
LAPD and CHP Coordinate in Eagle Rock Search
Air units from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) tracked the fleeing individuals to the Eagle Rock Recreation Center, where at least one suspect — described as carrying a guitar and suffering head injuries — was located. Emergency responders transported one person to Huntington Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.
Law enforcement quickly set up a command post, requested support from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and deployed K-9 units. Nearby roads, including Eagle Vista Drive, were closed as the search intensified.
Shooting Investigation Near Freeway
At the same time, police were investigating a reported shooting near Figueroa Street and the 134 Freeway, though details remain limited. It is currently unclear if the shooting was officer-involved or connected to the suspects.
Suspects Possibly Spotted in Nearby Residence
At approximately 4:10 p.m., LAPD helicopter unit H62 reported a possible visual of a suspect near 1137 Eagle Vista Drive — described as “five houses just south of freeway, red vehicle in driveway.” Officers gave commands at the scene, but later confirmed a “negative visual,” with the suspect reportedly having entered a residence and all doors closed, curtains halfway open.
Freeway Closure Causes Major Disruption
The crash and subsequent police activity caused significant traffic delays on the 134 Freeway, with drivers even seen reversing on the Harvey onramp to escape the closure.
By 5:32 p.m., emergency logs indicated that tow requests for the damaged vehicles had been cancelled, signaling that the immediate emergency response had been wrapped up. No law enforcement injuries were reported.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have yet to confirm if the suspects have been apprehended. The investigation into both the freeway crash and the possible shooting remains ongoing.
