Music enthusiasts are in for a treat as award-winning pianist Robert Thies takes the stage at the South Pasadena Library Community Room on March 9, 2025, at 4:00 PM. Presented by the Restoration Concerts Committee of the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, this performance promises an afternoon of masterful interpretations and rich musical diversity.
A Program of Musical Excellence
Thies, known for his poetic temperament and refined artistry, will perform an eclectic program featuring works by Brahms, Schumann, Ravel, Cliff Eidelman, and Rachmaninoff. The concert will offer audiences a journey through different musical styles and eras, showcasing Thies’ ability to bring compositions to life with depth and emotion.

An Accomplished Pianist with Global Recognition
A Steinway Artist and an internationally recognized performer, Thies gained prominence after winning the Gold Medal at the Second International Prokofiev Competition in 1995. This achievement made him the first American pianist to win a Russian competition since Van Cliburn’s historic victory in 1958. His performances have been praised by the Los Angeles Times, which described him as “a pianist of unerring warm-toned refinement, revealing judicious glimmers of power.”
Beyond the concert stage, Thies is in demand for contemporary recording projects and has contributed to film and television soundtracks. His versatility as an orchestral soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician sets him apart in the classical music world.

The Restoration Concerts Committee, part of the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, is dedicated to bringing world-class musical performances to the community while raising funds for the restoration and enhancement of the South Pasadena Library and Community Room.
