The Altadena Coalition has risen from the ashes – to claim their hometown, and right to rebuild.

A new mural at 409 Woodbury is transforming the heart of Altadena into a vibrant expression of resilience, unity, and community spirit. Created through a collective effort by local and international artists, the artwork stands as a powerful testament to the strength and cultural identity of the area.

The project was made possible with the support of the Altadena Coalition, a nonprofit dedicated to rebuilding and uplifting the community. Freddy Sayegh, co-founder of the coalition, played a key role in bringing this vision to life.

“We believe that only community can rebuild community,” said a representative from the Altadena Coalition. “This mural is just one example of how collective efforts can create lasting impact.”

An Artistic Collaboration with a Global Mission

The mural was created in partnership with The Goodness Tour (TGT), an internationally recognized nonprofit that brings art to crisis zones worldwide. TGT artists, known for using creativity to uplift communities facing adversity, collaborated with local Altadena residents to design a piece that reflects the area’s history, nature, and cultural identity.

“This isn’t just a mural—it’s a space for reflection, connection, and celebration,” said Samera Arkel, owner of 409 Woodbury.

Coordinated by Arkel, the project was also supported by Emily Phelps of Art Mingo Events and Altadena locals Delilah Sayegh Kim and Devin Kim. Together, they transformed The Woodbury’s walls into a living canvas of hope and inspiration.

A Lasting Impact on the Community

Located at 409 Woodbury Rd, the mural is more than an artistic statement—it represents Altadena’s resilience and dedication to preserving its identity. The initiative aligns with the Altadena Coalition’s mission to strengthen the community by lowering the cost of materials, improving access to contractors, and making homes safer.

“We won’t stop until Altadena is rebuilt, as resilient and beautiful as its people.”
