The LAPD, which has jurisdiction over the area, took over the investigation from the SPPD. The investigation is ongoing.
The South Pasadenan spoke with local residents and drivers; They expressed long-standing concerns about the lack of streetlights in the area, which remains totally dark at night and poses a serious safety risk. Locals said that complaints about these hazardous conditions have been made to LA City council district 14 Kevin de León for years.
The driver of the vehicle was interviewed by police, and no further details have been provided. The driver was distraught, and remained with the vehicle the entire time.

Why do we continue to tolerate death and injury on our city streets?
The city of Hoboken, NJ has a population twice ours, but they have had zero traffic fatality in seven years. Contrast that with five deaths and dozens of injuries felt in our community over the same period.
