South Pasadena High School and Middle School students joined tens of thousands of young people around the world on Friday with a message to world leaders:
Make a difference and do something about global change.
Protests took place in more than 100 countries, all following the example of one Swedish climate activist, Greta Thunberg. She began school strikes over climate change, marched with students in a movement that has gained worldwide traction.
The global strike was an act against climate change inaction.
The students believe they are in a race against time, a race for their lives as the window of opportunity is closing on them, some suggesting the climate delay is almost as dangerous as climate denial.
Thunberg is calling on all leaders of the world, telling the DW news site, “to come to New York in September with concrete, realistic plans to enhance their nationally determined contributions by 2020, in line with reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45% over the next decade, and to net zero by 2050.”
South Pasadena students are joining the global Fridays for Future Protests effort as they raise posters and shake their fists demanding global leaders to take action and make a positive change for the climate. They are saying the government has failed future generations by not effectively cutting global warming.
The worldwide protests were largely promoted through posts on Facebook, Twitter and other social media.
