Artists from SPACE – South Pasadena Arts Center, a community arts organization, will help children make their own creations during the second in the summer’s “Wonderful Wednesday” series on June 26 at the South Pasadena Public Library.

This hands-on art workshop, which begins at 3 p.m., will be held in the South Pasadena Library Community Room located at 1115 El Centro Street in South Pasadena.

SPACE teaching artist Christine Chin will present “The Bird Show: Colorful Birds and their Nests,” a session of creating art inspired by the natural world and by artists such as John James Audubon and Charley Harper. Using a variety of art and natural materials, she will lead the participants in sculpting colorful birds, as well as creating their nests.

SPACE has been a creative hub for the past eight years in South Pasadena, devoted to the belief that the arts make a community richer. Through gallery exhibitions and performances, school-based programs, studio classes and local partnerships, SPACE has emerged as an organization where imagination takes flight and creativity is turned into works of art. Although SPACE no longer operates a storefront studio on Mission Street in South Pasadena, it continues its non-profit mission to produce arts events and advocates for arts education.

The “Wonderful Wednesday” series is sponsored by the Friends of the South Pasadena Library, the South Pasadena Public Services Employees Association, and the National Charity League, San Marino Chapter.

The series continues with a different theme, entertainer or entertainers every Wednesday through July 31. The next featured performer for July 3 is Mr. Twister, the Balloon Man, who will help kids make balloon hats to wear in the Fourth of July Festival of Balloons Parade.

Due to limited resources and space, the library is unable to accommodate daycare, school and other special groups for these performances.
