  • We are very saddened by the South Pasadena Officer involved shooting of Vanessa Marquez last Thursday. Two separate investigations are underway by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney’s Office. They could take up to several months before they are concluded. City Manager Stephanie DeWolfe has asked “the public to be patient and wait until the facts of the case are confirmed before making judgments about the incident”. LWV – Voices from the Front Lines of Voter Engagement and Empowerment Thursday, September 6, 8:00 a.m.-11:15 a.m. Our three panelists for League Day were selected for their experience in mobilizing people to be aware of the issues that matter to them and then vote. Each panelist will tell about his/her group’s experiences and best practices for motivating and empowering communities in our current environment. After Q & A with the audience, each table of participants will discuss and plan specific activities to help people in the Pasadena area get registered, informed, and then vote. BELLAND- A three night charity event benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide PreventionSeptember 6 – 8 A one woman show with an ensemble cast, BELLAND offers various acts from musical numbers to interpretive dances all while telling the story of Brittany Belland’s (writer, producer, and actor) struggle with mental illness throughout her life. An open bar hosted by Pabst Blue Ribbon will proceed the event while a silent art auction takes place in the theatre’s courtyard. Proceeds from ticket sales, the donation-only cash bar, and the silent auction will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Otter Story Hour returns on September 10 at 7:00 p.m. In the line up that night – Bryan Kett. In keeping with the theme for the night “Back to School” Bryan was a science teacher. Cruz’n for Roses Classic Car Show Sunday, September 16 at 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM Cost: Free Location: Mission Street Between Fair Oaks and Meridian, South Pasadena The South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee invites you to their 14th annual Classic Car Show along legendary Route 66 (Mission Street). The show will feature hundreds of hot rods, custom cars, and classics, as well as a raffle, trophies, refreshments, food, exhibits, and vendors of all sorts. Car clubs and car enthusiasts are invited to join in the fun and display their cars. Independent judges will award trophies in all 18 car categories. San Gabriel Valley Water Forum Tuesday, September 18 7:30 am – 1:30 pm This educational event is open to the public, city officials and businesses. The program and luncheon will feature experts in the water industry who will cover important water topics on climate and water supply conditions, Delta sustainability, storm water capture, and recycled water. CERT Basic Training – Oct 6, 13, 20, 8:00am to 1:00pm each day This 12 hour course teaches the CERT Basics including Fire Safety, Disaster Medical Operations, Search and Rescue, & Hazardous Materials. Must complete all 3 classes to graduate. In 95% of all emergencies, a neighbor, co-worker, or bystander is the first person at the scene of an emergency. The 15th annual Walk or Bike To School Day on Wednesday, October 10th at the three elementary schools as well as the middle school. South Pasadena Youth Commissioners will be at the schools handing prizes to those who walk or bike to school. Our local Police & Fire Department personnel will be on-site as well. Halloween Spooktacular will be held on Friday, October 26 at from 5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. The event will be located at Orange Grove Park, 815 Mission Street, South Pasadena. Breakfast with Santa will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 9 am to 11 am at the War Memorial Building, 435 Fair Oaks Avenue. This event is fun for the entire family!
