The Hive, a vibrant art and community space in South Pasadena, announced its move to a new location at 1118 Mission Street, opening its doors softly in the second week of April. The move marks an exciting new chapter for The Hive, which continues to serve as a creative hub for local artists, families, and makers of all ages.
“We are ridiculously excited and grateful,” shared organizers, thanking the community for its support during the transition.
The Hive to Celebrate at Eclectic Festival on April 26
The new space will host a lineup of free festivities during South Pasadena’s Eclectic Festival on Saturday, April 26, from 4:00 to 7:30 pm. Attendees can expect live music, craft stations, an art journaling exhibit, and a flower show—all happening at The Hive’s new address. The event is open to all ages.
Ongoing and Upcoming Workshops at The Hive
Women’s Art Journaling
Held every other week on Tuesday mornings (10:30 am–12:30 pm) or Thursday evenings (7:00–9:00 pm), this expressive visual art class invites women to use images, words, collage, and paint. Each session is $30, with RSVP recommended.
Kids’ Art Workshops
On Fridays, April 11, 18, and 25, children aged 6+ can explore new materials and techniques during Busy Bee Workshops from 3:30–5:00 pm. Cost is $35 per session or $140 monthly. RSVP is required.
Tiny Worlds (Date TBA)
This creative workshop combines paint, miniatures, foraged items, and assemblage to build whimsical vignettes. Held 12:00–2:00 pm, the class is $40 and RSVP is required.
Kids’ Night Out – April 18
Parents can enjoy a night off while kids enjoy crafts, food, and a movie from 6:00–8:00 pm. Ages 6+, $35, RSVP required.
Special April Programs
Stronger Through Art – April 6
The Hive hosted the ALTA Arts Collective in a special gathering to support artists impacted by the recent fires. The event offered a healing space through art from 3:00–5:00 pm.
Printing Class – April 16
Artist Jim McGlynn led a special printmaking class on Wednesday, April 16, from 6:00–9:00 pm. Fee was $70, materials included.
Beginners Knitting – April 17 & May 1
Taught by Denise Millard, this two-session class covered knitting basics. Held on alternating Thursdays from 6:00–8:00 pm, it cost $50 with materials included.
Looking Ahead: May Workshops and More
The Hive will also offer a Soul Collage workshop on Saturday, May 3 (10:00 am–2:00 pm), led by Sharon Carlsen, helping participants reflect on personal change through art.
