SPHS Speech and Debate | Team Places At Competition

Last Friday and Saturday the South Pasadena High School Speech and Debate team attended the Spring Debate tournament by the Southern California Debate League hosted by Arroyo High School on Friday, and Alhambra High School at East Los Angeles College on Saturday. The team competed in Novice and Varsity Congress, with roughly 60 students from Southern California participating in each event.

10 students competed in Novice Congress on Friday and 5 competed in Varsity Congress on Saturday. From Novice Congress, sophomore Nicole Lu placed 13th. From Varsity Congress, three students got to the final round of 16: freshman Noah Kuhn placed 13th, junior Nicholas Roberts-Mataric placed 5th, and junior Kenneth Schultz placed 2nd as well as being awarded MVP of the team.

“It was one of the most emotionally exhausting and mentally intensive days I’ve ever had, but it was also one of the most rewarding.” – Co-chair Kenneth Schultz.
The next competition the team will attend is this Saturday February 2, 2019 Spring Varsity at Arcadia High School.
