After routing undefeated arch rival San Marino, South Pasadena’s basketball team entered their So Cal Christmas Classic holiday tournament with high hopes, but coach Ernest Baskerville’s team suffered two losses in the tournament that bears their name. Games were played across three gyms including the two high school gyms and the South Pasadena Middle School gym.
The losses came to two highly regarded CIF basketball teams, Alemany and Crossroads. In the latter game the Tigers led most of the game but missed shots and fouls near the end saw them go down 60-59. The championship game saw Sherman Oaks Notre Dame upending Alemany for the crown. The tournament had 40 teams battling it out for the title with one coming as far away as Washington state.
The Tigers will start league competition once school resumes in the new year.
