Following a highly successful lecture on native planting in South Pasadena, we are pleased to announce the continuation of the South Pasadena Public Library’s Sowing South Pasadena initiative. Our upcoming events calendar is packed with sustainability-focused programs scheduled through May 2024.

Join us on Monday, April 1, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room, located at 1115 El Centro Street, for a special presentation by renowned actor and long-time environmental activist, Ed Begley Jr. He will discuss his latest memoir, To the Temple of Tranquility… And Step On It! This event promises valuable insights into environmental stewardship and sustainability practices. Books will be available for purchase at the event, and attendees will have the opportunity to have their copies signed by Ed Begley Jr. Registration is required. Sign up for this event at www.southpasadenaca.gov/register.

In To the Temple of Tranquility…And Step On It! Begley shares hilarious and poignant stories of his improbable life, focusing on his relationship with his legendary father, adventures with Hollywood icons, the origins of his environmental activism, addiction and recovery, and his lifelong search for wisdom and common ground.
Inspired by his Academy Award-winning father, Ed Begley Jr. pursued acting, gaining fame as Dr. Victor Ehrlich on “St. Elsewhere,” earning six Emmy nominations. He seamlessly transitions between film, TV, and theater, featuring in “Ghostbusters,” various Christopher Guest films, and TV shows like “Better Call Saul” and “Lady Dynamite.”

Passionate about the environment, Ed, along with his family, created projects like “Living With Ed” and “On Begley Street”, and now hosts the Begleyesque Podcast. Living in a solar-powered home and driving an electric car, he champions sustainability with a strategic opportunism that defines his environmental activism.

Sowing South Pasadena programming is supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
