Senior Center events taking place the week of November 23 through November 30, 2018 in South Pasadena

The South Pasadena Senior Center, located at 1102 Oxley Street in South Pasadena invites senior citizens to take advantage of programs and services offered to enhance their quality of life.

The following will be offered:

Friday, November 23 – Happy Thanksgiving – The Center will closed due to Holiday.

Monday, November 26 -1:15 p.m. – Foreign Film – The Closet (2017), French, 94 minutes. Senior citizens welcome.

Tuesday, November 27, 10:30 a.m. – Healthy for the Holidays – What you need to know before the holiday starts. Dr. Christine will provide tips to maintaining good health throughout the season and speaks at the Center the fourth Tuesday of each month. No presentation will be offered in December. Sign up needed.

Wednesday, November 28, 9:30 a.m. – Crochet & knitting – Class has resumed, come join us. Learn to create fun gifts or bring your own projects. Instructor: Jean Shono, $5 per class.

Wednesday, November 28, 10:30 a.m. – Crafts: Holiday Fleece Blankets – learn to make a fleece blankets for your holiday gifts. Bring 1 yard of your favorite fleece print fabric or solid in color. Scissors and measuring tape. We will provide the rest. Advanced sign up required. Sample will be displayed in the Center lobby.

Wednesday, November 28, 10:30 a.m. – “Men in Retirement”.   Have you recently joined the permanent vacation force? Don’t really know what to do now? Feeling a little lost? Too much time on your hands? Join weekly discussion group and learn how to the fill the empty hours and discover ways to thrive in your third act! Group lead by certified trainer Oliver Beaudette.

Friday, November 30, 10:30 a.m. – Sing Along Stories: Barbershop & Beautyshop favorites with Saul Jacobs and Bob Lipson. Sponsored by Senior Citizens Foundation, treats provided for attendees.

Friday, November 30, Birthday Celebration – The Center will celebrate birthdays for the month of November. Honorees receive free lunch and birthday card. Cake is provided for all attending the luncheon. Advanced sign up required. Special thanks to our sponsored: Anthem Blue Cross.

Friday, November 30, 1 p.m., Cinema – The Young Lions (1958), Film adaptation/drama, 2 hour 47 minutes. All Senior citizens welcome.

Friday, November 30, 1:30 p.m. – Good Grief: Surviving Loss – Grief is not limited to feelings of sadness. It can also involve guilt, yearning, anger and regret. Join an ongoing support group that will cover the five stages of grief and assist with tools to deal with grief. You do not have to endure grief alone. Paris Silva, PsyD, and LCSW will lead group. Sign-ups are encourage, but walk-ins welcome.

Lunch is served Monday through Friday, the menu for the week: Monday, November 26– Chicken Florentine; Tuesday, November 27– Salmon Loaf w/ Newburg Sauce; Wednesday November 28 – Rosemary Roast Pork; Thursday, November 29 – Sloppy Joes w/ ground beef and Friday November 30 – Paella with Chicken. Lunches cost $2.25 and required a reservation in advance.

The program, operated by volunteers, offers delivered meals for home bound seniors not able to cook due to illness or being frail. Contact the Senior Center to obtain an application.
