South Pasadena Senior Center Events

The South Pasadena Senior Center, 1102 Oxley Street in South Pasadena, offers programs and services to enhance the quality of life of senior citizens.

The following will be offered the week of May 7- May 11, 2018

Monday, May 7, 10 a.m. – “Heart Health, Stroke & Blood Pressure” Reduce your risk of heart disease or stroke by changing the way you eat and speaker will provide tips to stay active and incorporate fitness/movement into your routine. Presented by Bill Shuttic, Natural Health Practitioner & Nutritionist.

Tuesday, May 8, 8:30 a.m. – “Walking Group” Tuesdays & Thursdays, 8:30 –9:30 am
Group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 am. Newcomers welcome. Meet at SC and group will introduce you to the regulars. Group is friendly and encourages one another. An easy form of exercise and does not require equipment, and allows for socializing at the same time. Lead volunteers are Marta Pando and Linda Mendoza.

Tuesday, May 8, 4 p.m. – Ballroom Dance instruction focusing on Swing for the month of May. Cost per month $25 or $7 for walk ins.

Wednesday, May 9, 8:30 a.m. – “Glucose Testing & Blood Press” Each month on the second Wednesday Huntington Hospital nurse Kathy Eastwood is available to provide glucose test and blood pressure screenings. Fasting 1.5 hours prior is required. Walk-ins welcome 8:30-10:30 am.

Wednesday, May 9, 10:30 – “Chair Yoga” led by Nurse Kathy Eastwood from Huntington Hospital. Offered at no cost, but limited on space, sign up in advance.

Thursdays, May 10, 8:30 a.m. – Functional Fitness class focuses on improving everyday functional fitness through upper & lower extremity strengthening. Class is geared for the intermediate level student. Monthly cost $16 month for 2 days per week.

Thursdays, May 10, 8:30 a.m – Yoga, 8:30 am, Increase flexibility through positions that act upon the various joints of the body, including those rarely used. Yoga can assist with relieving pain as well as improve sleep. Monthly cost of $24 month for 2 days per week.
