On Monday, July 18, 2022, several South Pasadena City employees received an email from an individual claiming to be a violent criminal with intent to cause serious harm to his probation officer and others individuals. The suspect in this case identified himself as a resident of South Pasadena.

Officers responded immediately and followed all leads, which now appear to be false. Given the information provided, it is believed that the email was generated from outside of the country and sent as a scare tactic, similar to swatting.

Out of an abundance of caution based on recipients of the email threats and generic locations mentioned, the Senior Center, Orange Grove Park, and the Library were placed on a temporary lockdown.

It has come to the Police Department’s attention that several rumors are circulating that an armed individual was at one of the City facilities. This is not the case, and that rumor is false.

The Police Department takes “swatting” incidents seriously, and this incident remains under investigation. If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the South Pasadena Police Department at 626-403-7297.
