The South Pasadena Public Library invites readers of all ages to join its 2025 Summer Reading Program (SRP), Level Up at Your Library, from June 2 through August 2. The program encourages participants to read, track their progress, and attend in-person events for a chance to win prizes. Registration begins Monday, June 2 at www.southpasadenaca.gov/SRPinfo.

Activities for All Ages Throughout the Summer

This year’s Summer Reading Program offers a robust schedule of activities for kids, teens, and adults, including storytimes, Wonderful Wednesday performances, a My Gym playtime event, community parade participation, and adult offerings like the All Abilities Club and the Walk ‘N Talk Book Club.

Weekly Storytimes Promote Literacy and Engagement

Starting June 10, weekly storytimes help children build early literacy skills while engaging in age-appropriate physical and cognitive development.

Storytime Schedule:

  • Preschool Storytime: Tuesdays, 10:30–11:00 a.m. (Ages 3–5)
  • Toddler Storytime: Thursdays, 10:30–10:50 a.m. & 11:00–11:20 a.m. (Ages 1–3)
  • Family Storytime: Saturdays, 10:30–11:00 a.m. (All ages)

These sessions foster social skills such as listening and observing, preparing young participants for school and beyond.

Special Event: My Gym Pasadena Playtime

On Thursday, June 27, from 10:30–11:00 a.m., My Gym Pasadena hosts a fun, interactive play session for children ages 1–10. No registration is required. The event includes singing, dancing, and a reading of A Magical My Gym Day to promote imagination, social development, and confidence.

March in the Festival of Balloons Parade

Families are invited to march with Library staff in the annual Festival of Balloons Parade on Friday, July 4. Meet at 10:30 a.m. on the Fairview Avenue side of Library Park. No registration required—strollers, wagons, and scooters are welcome. Don’t forget sunscreen and water!

Programs for Adults

The Library also offers enriching summer activities for adult participants.

  • All Abilities Club (AAC): For adults with disabilities, meeting at 10:00 a.m. in the Community Room on June 13, July 11, and August 8 (no registration required).
  • Walk ‘N Talk Book Club: Meets on June 11, July 9, and August 13 at 9:00 a.m. on Oxley Street in front of the Library. Advance registration is required at www.southpasadenaca.gov/register.

Why Summer Reading Matters

Research shows that students who read at least 20 minutes daily during summer avoid the “summer slide” and enter the school year with a literacy advantage. The Summer Reading Program helps strengthen these vital skills through fun and engaging activities.
